The ‘Chrianna Effect’

Since the Chris Brown and Rihanna story broke on February 8th, traffic (PV’s) on our Bossip.com property is up 28%. A story like this is in our sweet spot and the dynamic is similar to the upside trend we saw with political blogs such as Huffington Post and Daily Kos during the 2008 election year. Some unique and often unfortunate events can be traffic gamechangers creating a massive opportunity to drive growth in the short to medium term. The political blogs had an “Obama effect” and some popular culture blogs are witnessing a “Chrianna effect” on their traffic.
Hopefully, Rihanna will do the right thing and something much more significant than traffic upside can come out of this story. This story may have legs to drive more traffic growth for at least a few more months. As a news publisher, sometimes you will just get lucky with a sticky story. The challenge is to keep the new visitors.
